WR detects 507 cases of illegal travel in physical challenged coach


In order to provide better services to its physically challenged commuters, Western Railway (WR) has launched an extensive drive against unauthorized travelling in Handicap Coaches of its suburban trains from Feb 9, 2012 resulting in detection of 507 cases of unauthorized travelling in such coaches.

To carry out this drive, about 200 RPF personnels are deployed at all the major stations on WR’s suburban section, out of which 80 personnels have been called from other divisions.

During the first two days on February 9 & 10, more than 315 cases of unauthorized travelling in Handicap coaches were detected in which a fine resulting to Rs.61,420 was collected from the offenders. Similarly, 192 offenders were booked on Saturday and Sunday on February 11 & 12. These cases were presented in court on Monday.

Travelling unauthorisedly in Handicap coaches is a punishable offence under Section 155 of Railways Act.
